Friends of Jesus (biography) The friends of JESUS praise and worship band began in 1999, when the Lord put on the heart of Larry Cunningham to name a brand new band after John 15:15. It was in Costa Mesa Calif. that the concept began. The founding members are Esther and Larry Cunningham who had been singing on street corners and anywhere the Lord would provide. At a coffee shop in Fullerton Ca. They received an answer to 4 years of prayer, to be used by God, to sing glory to God in a public forum. They were asked to lead worship at Christ Luthern Church in Huntington beach. Even though they only knew about 15 minutes of songs they where asked to perform for an hour. By faith they excepted. After attending a church in Brea Calif. for 3 years, Larry wrote a letter to Greg Laurie to pray for more musical equipment and after about 6 months their prayers were answered. They were invited to lead worship every Sunday at 2:30 p.m. at a Church in Hawaiian Gardens. It was about that same time that they met Ernie Machado, the lead guitarist. It was in fact on their wedding day. Ernie and Larry went out side of a supermarket at about 11 p.m. and began to discuss their love for the Lord and their love for wanting to write Christian songs. Their first C.D. Blessings from above is their first effort after 3 years of rehearsing, to bring Gods message in song through scripturally based songs. Elsa Benevitas, and Shaiyen Jaunky have over the last year joined the band as back up vocals. The Friends of Jesus have since performed at various places in Orange and L.A. counties. Masters Choice Christian Coffee house in La Mirada Ca., The Hyland home for handicapped adults in Stanton Ca., They lead worship at their home Church New Creation out reach in Santa Ana. Ca. once a month, Jacobs well in Long Beach Ca., a men's Christian home, and various other places." Their heart to play!", wherever the Holy Spirit is drawing all men unto God.
